Side Burn Teaspooned Malt 35 Year Old 1989 Thompson Bros

A superbly retro-looking bottle of Speyside blended malt from Thompson Bros, this 1989 vintage Side Burn spent over 35 years maturing before bottling at a satisfying 51% ABV in 2025. 

Burnside is a trademarked name typically used for teaspooned Balvenie. That trademark is not held by the Thompson Bros who have inverted the nomenclature for this wonderful Side Burn bottling.

Official Tasting Notes

Nose: Opens with a very enticing round fruitiness, met with a good deal of minerality. The refill wood has allowed the spirit to develop a great depth without overpowering the raw materials, rather transforming them into a beautiful mix of orchard fruit salad, honey and salt.

Palate: The medley of orchard fruits continue on the palate, followed by camphor, white pepper and some honeysuckle.

Finish: Great length, as you would expect from the age, with lots of wax, and a little bit of white pepper, providing that signature Bal*enie bittersweetness to give a great deal of balance.
